Student artwork tells the May on the Bay story
And your students could be part of this exciting project! We are setting dates for presentations in Winter and early Spring NOW. If you have a classroom or youth group who would be interested in learning more about shorebirds, horseshoe crabs, and the Delaware Bay, sign up today.
These signs will help more people understand how they can be a respectful visitor by sharing the beach with birds and horseshoe crabs, as well as encouraging more people to get involved in conservation actions. Youth-generated signage is often viewed as very welcoming and engaging and has received very positive feedback from the public.
A select number of designs will be printed on weather-proof materials and securely displayed on Delaware Bay beaches. Remaining signs will be displayed in exhibits at libraries, community centers, schools, or businesses.
If you don’t have a group of students to help with the signs, you can get involved by displaying a sign on your property, business, or helping to facilitate display in another community location.
Last year we installed 47 youth-created signs on 16 beaches in New Jersey and Delaware. We want to do the same again this, year but first we need students to create artwork! To request a youth presentation or to display a sign contact Laura Chamberlin.
