Help us kick-off the May on the Bay season on a field trip with shorebirds, horseshoe crabs, and good company. Learn about the conservation challenges on the Delaware Bay and ongoing conservation actions here at the first WHSRN site. We’ll even include a little horseshoe crab rescue if our help is needed.
This driving tour will start at high tide at one of the best spawning beaches on the Bay for horseshoe crab viewing. We’ll then continue on to several beaches and nearby salt marshes to see what we can find. Finally, we will return to Fortescue Beach, our cars, and horseshoe crabs that may need rescuing.
Advance scouting may change the itinerary, but starting location will not change. We will meet at the far end of the large parking lot at Fortescue Beach. Maps will be provided upon RSVP.
Bring your own snacks/lunch, water, and bug/sun protection.
Itinerary will include:
8:00 am: Meet at Fortescue Beach for high tide and horseshoe crab spawning.
8:30 am: Shorebird viewing at Fortescue Beach.
10:00 am: Shorebird and salt marsh birding at Thompsons Beach and Moores Beach.
11:45 am: Horseshoe crab rescue back at Fortescue Beach.
Optional: Join us for lunch at local favorite, Bull on the Barn/Bayshore Crab House.
The event will be rain or shine, however heavy rain or thunderstorms may result in the event being cancelled. Updates on changes due to weather will be sent to the RSVP list.
Make it a Weekend!
